I have been a car enthusiast since before I could walk! It’s not genetics, as the rest of my family really aren’t. But I have a few great friends who might have each had a guiding hand at some point in my life!
Once I passed my test, it was clear where my devotions lied, I ended up in a Ford and have been ever since (apart from a 2 month gap, with THAT Mini!).
Through spending time on forums and attending Car shows, events and track days, I have made a fantastic bunch of friends. I might be slightly out of the ‘scene’ these days, but thanks to Facebook and other social media, we all know what we’re all up to!
This was my daily car for 3 years. The only changes were to the lights! The footwell lights and registration plate lights were changed to LEDs and the headlights were fitted with HID bulbs.
I owned this car for a very short space of time. It was great fun, but the engine required major work due it’s high mileage and past neglect. No major modifications were carried out.
I thought a big diesel would be fun! It was for a little bit. That was until the gearbox went bang! Whilst replacing the gearbox we found major damage to the N/S chassis leg, so I part exchanged the car for the Mini.
Bought as a daily, with occasional track use. It was stripped out and had two bucket seats fitted on the journey home from purchasing it. Shawspeed SS4 cams upped the power from 100BHP to 128BHP.
Stupid car. Stupid decision. Technology within it was fun, if I was forced to pick a positive! I could not wait to return to something more fun!
I really miss this car, and 100% regret ever selling it. I bought it as a basic 1.25 LX, which just about had a radio. Over the years I fitted electric windows, alloy wheels, uprated the brakes (ST150), lowered the suspension by 40mm, fitted a cat-back exhaust, leather recaro seats, “body kit” of miss-mashed parts, and of course a Puma engine conversion in September 2010.
If ever I have spare time and money, I would LOVE to build a car to a similar spec again. It wasn’t track focussed, but managed it well (if a little under powered for Castle Combe and Silverstone) all while still being a fantastic daily driver! I used the car for over 50,000 miles and apart from two 1.25 engines failing, it never let me down!
My first car. A 1.3 litre engine, with no power, but that’s what is needed! I bought it for £100 and it did me well. I learnt a few mechanical tips with this car as it proved to have a few gremlins!
